DEPARTMENT OF PROFESSIONAL ENGLISH

– Introduction of the Department: The Department of Foreign Languages ​​was established in 1956 by Mr. Ngo Tri Oanh as Head of the Department and then was undertaken by Ms. Le Thi Thuan. During that period, the Department was in charge of Russian, French, Chinese, and English teaching, in which the Russian language was the main teaching focus. In February 2007, the Department of Foreign Languages ​​was divided into two departments: the Department of Language Theory, led by Ms. Ha Thi Lan, M.A., followed by Ms. Pham Thi Tuyet Thanh, M.A. as Head of the Department, and the Department of Language Practice, led by Mr. Tran Hoai Nam, M.A., followed by Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh Tam, M.A. as Head of the Department.

On June 7, 2013, due to the rearrangement of the organizational structure, the University administrators decided to merge the two departments of Language Theory and Practice into the Department of Foreign Languages led by Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh Tam, M.A. On May 3, 2017, after the English language major was opened, the Department of Foreign Languages ​​was divided into two departments: the Department of Professional English, led by Ms. Bui Thi La, M.A., and the Department of Basic English led by Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh Tam, M.A. Currently, the Department of Professional English is in charge of teaching English major classes, Advanced and High-Quality programs, and English for graduate training programs of the University.

With the rich history of the Department and with the development of the University and Faculty, the Department has constantly grown and developed. The responsibilities of the Department have been increasingly diverse and heavier and the scale has also been expanded. The relationships of the Department with agencies inside and outside the University have also been broadening.

– Teaching staffs: Department of Professional English has 12 lecturers, including 01 Ph.D.; 11 M.A.

– Courses undertaken: The Department is responsible for teaching courses in the English major, Advanced and High-Quality programs, English for graduate training programs, Basic English, and English for Specific Purposes.

– Scientific research directions: Focusing on developing English language research, face-to-face and online teaching and learning, innovating teaching methods to suit the characteristics and abilities of the students in both English major and non-English majors to constantly improve training qualities to meet the outcome standards of the University and the society.

Every year, the Department organizes seminars and workshops to create opportunities for lecturers to exchange teaching experiences and improve professional knowledge.

– Number of projects that have been and are being implemented: The Department has conducted 6 university-level research projects and published 18 articles in journals and conference proceedings inside and outside the University (Vietnam Journal of Agricultural Sciences – Vietnam National University of Agriculture, and Proceedings of the Conferences).
