DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM AND TRAVEL MANAGEMENT

Introduction: Department of Tourism and Travel Management was established following the Decision 3511/HVN dated June 24, 2022, by the President of Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA). Our lecturers have professionals in tourism management and development. We are responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students. The assigned tasks of the department are teaching, researching, and technology transfer.

Teaching staff: The department has 05 lecturers and 01 researcher. All lecturers have PhDs or Master’s degrees from famous universities in Germany, Belgium, the Philippines, and Australia.

Courses undertaken: The department’s primary duty is teaching undergraduate students in Tourism and Travel Management the following subjects: Fundamentals of Tourism, Tourism Geography, Cultural Tourism, Tourism Resources, Cultural Heritage Management, Tour Operation, Travel Management, Tour Guide Training, Tour Planning, Tourism Project, Internship 1, Internship 2, and Graduation Thesis.

Besides, we are teaching some subjects of marketing and business management to undergraduate students of other faculties at VNUA. We are also advisors of students for their scientific research. In addition, our Ph.D. lecturers are responsible for being supervisors of postgraduate students from different faculties at VNUA.

Scientific Research Directions: the department focuses on the following research areas:

• Ecotourism, agritourism, smart tourism, and other potential kinds of tourism in Vietnam;
• Planning, monitoring, and evaluating socio-economic programs and projects, especially in tourism development
• Risk management in tourism
• Tourism governance
• Supply chain and value chain of agricultural products associated with tourism development
• Human resource development in tourism
• Digital tourism
• Developing tourism in households, farms, cooperatives, and enterprises
• Regional linkage in tourism development
• Research on the behaviors of tourism stakeholders
• Research on poverty reduction and livelihood development
• Evaluating other programs and projects.

The number of projects that have been and are being implemented: Our lecturers have engaged in many projects as project managers, scientific secretaries, or members. We have implemented 14 international projects, 3 national projects, 3 ministerial-level projects, 8 provincial-level projects, and 10 VNUA projects.

Our lecturers have been working as consultants in NGOs, international organizations, and different government agencies. Our partners include UNDP, ACIAR, SEARCA, IRRI, PLAN, Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Science and Technology, Department of Science and Technology, and Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Moreover, the department also collaborates with NGOs to conduct research, training, and technology transfer.

Publications

We encourage members to publish in high-ranking journals. In recent years, we have published 20 articles in international journals and 18 articles in national journals.
