PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES PROGRAM

Objectives

The objectives of English program is to train Bachelors of English with good knowledge of English, proficient use of English (equivalent to C1 level according to the Common European Framework for Reference), professional skills, manners, political quality, ethics, good health and high adaptability to be able to work effectively in specialized areas of English, meeting the requirements of the socio-economic development process and international integration of the country.

After graduation, learners can:

Objective 1: Effectively organize and implement professional fields such as translation – interpretation, English teaching, language research, office administration

Objective 2: Make good use of English at C1 level (grade 5)

Objective 3: Train and develop independent working skills, teamwork skills, self-study ability to improve qualifications and self-responsibility.

Objective 4: Start a business and create jobs for others in the fields related to education and foreign languages. 

Expected Learning outcomes of English training program at VNUA.

1.Knowledge

1.1. General knowledge

ELO1: Applying knowledge of language, culture, social science, humanities, economics, politics, management, governance, law, environment, understanding of contemporary and international issues into English;

ELO 2: Analyzing theoretical knowledge of English and Vietnamese to perform professional work;

ELO 3: Evaluating English and Vietnamese documents at work;

1.2. Professional knowledge

ELO 04

–  Translation and interpretation Orientation: Evaluating products in translation and interpretation activities.

– Teaching Orientation: Evaluating documents, syllabi, lectures and products in teaching and research activities

ELO 05:

– Translation and interpretation Orientation: Being creative and flexible when performing translation and interpretation work based on basic and advanced theory

-Teaching Orientation : Being creative in teaching and scientific research based on knowledge of teaching methods and information technology

2.Skills

2.1. General skills

ELO  6: Applying critical and creative thinking to solving skills of analyzing, synthesizing, evaluating information, presenting, writing letters, writing scientific reports in English.

ELO 7: Having English proficiency at level 5 according to the 6-level Foreign Language Competency Framework for Vietnam.

ELO 8: Using foreign language 2 at level 3 according the 6-level Foreign Language Competency Framework for Vietnam.

2.2. Professional skills

ELO 9:

– Translation and interpretation Orientation: Creatively implementing and developing translation and interpretation skills related to the fields of Agriculture, Economy, Culture, Society, Education and so on;

– Teaching orientation : Creatively implementing teaching-learning activities and scientific research;

ELO10:

– Translation and interpretation Orientation: Applying  translation, interpretation, negotiation, office administration skills to solve problems at work.

– Teaching orientation: Applying skills in designing, adjusting and developing teaching materials professionally.

3.Autonomy and self-responsibility

ELO 11: Developing entrepreneurship and motivating lifelong learning. Implementing social responsibility, respecting and upholding professional ethics;

ELO 12: Promoting collective intelligence;  promoting the ability to evaluate and improve professional activities; adapting to different working environments.

4. Learners’ Career orientation after graduation:

After graduation, English majors are able to work in positions such as translators, interpreters, managers, office workers, teachers, researchers in institutions including

+ State organizations , foreign companies, joint venture and private enterprises in which English is used

+ State management agencies, linguistic  institutes.

+ Educational training institutions including universities, colleges, vocational schools and high schools.

+ Social organizations, non-governmental organizations, international organizations related to English language.
