Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, President of Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), said that in the period of 2020-2022, the number of scientific research projects and the project funding of the university increased by 18% and 26%, respectively, as compared to those in 2019. In particular, international publications increased by 26% compared to 2019.
VNUA organized the “2023 VNUA Science and Technology Festival”. This was the summary event of the series of activities in “The 2023 VNUA Science and Technology Month”.
The festival consisted of 3 main activities, including “Science and technology conference of the university staff”, “Exhibition of scientific and technological products of the university students” and “Student Conference for scientific research”.

Sharing at this event, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan said that scientific research and technology development were both the goal and the driving force of the university’s development.
“Science and technology must play a key role to create breakthrough development, improve training quality, attract resources, and maintain and further develop university reputation and brand.”
In the last 5 years, VNUA had had 59 scientific and technological products registered for intellectual property or recognized as a national technical progress, including 26 plant varieties; 11 technical advances and 22 utility solutions/patents. Many products and technologies had been practically applied and contributed to the agricultural economic development of Vietnam.
In addition, VNUA also had many studies and proposals on the management of ministries and branches such as: Research on sustainable development of agriculture, rural economy and farmers associated with national digital transformation, urbanization and adaptation to climate change; Research on the panorama of Vietnam Agricultural Cooperatives in 2022, towards a modern, circular, and low-emission agriculture; and Preparation of the annual report on agriculture and rural development, etc.

“Notably, in the period of 2020 – 2022, VNUA’s scientific and technological activities have achieved encouraging achievements”, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan said.
Specifically, the number of scientific research projects and the funding for the implementation of the project increased by 18% and 26%, respectively as compared to 2019.
The number of technical advances, patents and utility solutions also increased sharply. In which, international publications increased by 26%, especially the publications in WoS/Scopus journals increased by 41% compared to 2019.

According to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, in addition to promoting international publication, VNUA also focused on researching and creating new and highly applicable technologies and products, serving the restructuring of agriculture – rural development, contributing to the development of sustainable agriculture with high added value.
“The university currently has 6 ISO laboratories that can test more than 700 analytical criteria (including veterinary, animal husbandry, environmental, and soil criteria, etc.), 82 scientific and technological models, 2 agricultural hospitals (Veterinary Hospital and Plant Hospital). This is an important resource in the training and research work of the university and the international integration of the agricultural industry in general and the university in particular”, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan shared.

In the last academic year, VNUA also successfully organized 5 major conferences with the theme “Vietnam National University of Agricultural accompanies businesses, cooperatives, and farmers for a green, clean and safe agriculture” in Hanoi, Son La, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Ha Giang provinces with more than 1,600 direct attendees and over 5,000 online attendees from 22 northern and northern central provinces.
